Fats or oil, lye plus basic chemical reaction and you get a soap. That's it. How your soap going to look is basically your choice  of ingredients. To make some cookies you need some flour and water. Not a tasty choice of ingredients but still, you can make cookie from those. Same principle goes for soap. Take some nice oils, add some even better essences, some coloring and your soap gets its own taste. Commercial grade soap will never taste perfect, just like you want. But home made soap would.
